Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Ion channels and transporters play a pivotal role in regulating biological functions. They are crucial in maintaining cellular homeostasis and disease pathophysiology. Their disruption has been associated with several diseases, such as neurological, cardiovascular, and metabolic disorders. During cellular energy generation, acids produced as byproducts are excreted by proton transporters expressed on the cell membrane. These acids are first released into the interstitial fluid, an extracellular space, and then transported into blood vessels for eventual excretion from the body. Interstitial fluid is also a crucial site for hormone-receptor interactions. Notably, interstitial fluid pH significantly impacts the binding affinity of insulin receptors. Furthermore, ion channels and transporters play a vital role in neural activity. Blood pressure, essential for the transport of substances in vivo, is modulated through sodium ion transporters that regulate fluid volume.

This special issue aims to provide novel insights into the regulatory mechanisms of ion channels and transporters by bringing together cutting-edge research elucidating the molecular mechanisms, pharmacological interventions, and clinical applications of these essential membrane proteins. We welcome your contributions to this special issue and your sharing of expertise in this rapidly advancing field.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted via our online editorial system at https://www.discovmed.com/Journalx_dm/authorLogOn.action by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to start your submission. Manuscripts can be submitted now or up until the deadline. All papers will go through peer-review process. Accepted papers will be published in the journal (as soon as accepted) and meanwhile listed together on the special issue website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts will be thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. Please visit the Instruction for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. Submitted manuscripts should be well formatted in good English.
